LA 2015 here we come! Preparing our athletes for the Summer World Games

LA 2015 Orientation

Special Olympics Mongolia is sending it’s first ever athletes to the Special Olympics Summer World Games! In 2015 the Games are being held in Los Angeles, USA.

We are sending 14 athletes and 2 unified partners to the 2015 LA Summer Games, but most of the athletes and coaches have never traveled outside of Mongolia before, and have only competed on a local or national level.

On January 14th 2015, to help the Mongolian delegation to get prepared for their first World Games in Los Angeles this summer, we held an orientation for 25 athletes and their parents, coaches and the local sports club leaders.

Mr Surenkhorloo, the acting Sports Director of Special Olympics Mongolia, and Mr Byambasuren, the Health Promotion Specialist of Special Olympics Mongolia gave presentations and guidance for the training plans and athletes’ health suggestions.

SOMGL’s training program, in the hands of our capable coaches, consists of at least two or three, one hour, training sessions per week in Judo, table tennis and athletics. SOMGL also encourages cross trainings in different sports as a method to increase general physical fitness. Small competitions within the clubs are going to be organised to help prepare the athletes for the upcoming LA Games, and 2-3 bigger competitions between all local clubs are being planned to give the athletes practice in competitive situations.

Mr Byambasuren is also coordinating ongoing free health and physical ability consultations for athletes, not only for the general benefit of the athletes and their carers, but also to help coaches to tailor sports training to the abilities of the athletes.
