Unified Sports program
The Unified Sports program is a unique and inclusive sport program that combines Special Olympics Athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and Partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) training and competing together. All Athletes and Partners must have necessary skills in their sport of choice to participate under current Special Olympics Official Sports Rules.
This is an inclusive program so that means there must be equal numbers of Partners for each Athlete. This allows participants to experience a better environment for achieving social inclusion. In addition Athletes and Partners should be of similar age and ability. Age and ability-level matching of Athletes and Partners are defined on a sport-by-sport level basis.
